Concern about rise in homeless

An MP has spoken out after a 22 per cent rise in homelessness.

Government figures showed that people registered homeless in the Yorkshire region between 2010 and 2012 rose from 4,160 to 5,060.

Michael Dugher, Labour MP for Barnsley East, said: “The UK is the world’s seventh richest country, yet people are facing a cost of living crisis.”

Mr Dugher said more homes need to be built to bring down house prices and reduce a shortage of family accommodation.
