TEMPERATURES will drop as low as -4C tonight – before Sheffield is hit by yet more snow.
Forecasters say this evening is going to be ‘very cold’ as another wave of wintry weather heads in from the west on Wednesday.
Around 5cm of snow could fall on higher ground with maximum daytime temperatures of 3C.
John Lee, from forecasters Meteo Group, said: “After a dry start on Wednesday there’s going to be some sleet and snow spreading in from the west.
“As that passes through it will turn to mostly rain and it will feel slightly less cold.
“There will be some snow for a time, even in lower places, but it won’t last very long.
“On higher ground there could be about 5cm.”
Thursday is expected to see higher temperatures of around 8C, and rain.
Weston Park Weather Station also confirmed Sheffield has had the deepest January snow since 1996, and the deepest February snow since 2009.
A spokesman added: “We’ve had the most number of days on which it has snowed so far this year since 2010.”
Sheffield Council’s Streets Ahead team worked through the weekend and yesterday to keep roads clear after snow fell on Sunday night.
Priority routes were cleared by 9am yesterday by teams from contractor Amey.
Coun Jack Scott, cabinet member for street scene, said: “As always, Streets Ahead is working hard to keep Sheffield moving during snow and winter weather.”
