Chemical blast causes damage to Doncaster building

A Doncaster factory had to be evacuated after a tank of acid based chemicals exploded.

The incident happened at Bridon Wire on Carr Hill, Balby at 10.35pm on Thursday.

Four appliances from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended, and found that 60 workers had already been moved to a place of safety.

There were no casualties.

The fire was in a static tank containing about 20 tonnes of a chemical used for stripping steel.

The blast severely damaged the roof of the building where it was contained.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters from Doncaster, Edlington and Adwick stations spent three hours at the incident.
