Burglar hid in chest freezer

Police Commissioners Meeting, Robert Teal Lib Dem

Police Commissioners Meeting, Robert Teal Lib Dem

A BURGLAR is thought to have hidden inside a chest freezer for three hours when an alarm was triggered while he was attempting to raid a South Yorkshire shop.

The offender, who is being hunted by police, broke into Vitesse, a newsagents and convenience store on Church Street in Barnsley town centre, at around 1am on Sunday.

Robert Teal, pictured, who runs the shop, believes the intruder hid in a small chest freezer at the back of the shop.

He said: “There is nowhere else he could have hidden. What alarmed me was he must have been armed too because I found a nine inch kitchen knife on the shop floor which he must have dropped.”
