BREAKING: Owls chairman Mandaric acquitted
SHEFFIELD Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric has been found ‘not guilty’ of a £600,000 tax dodge over player transfer payments.
The chairman expressed his delight in a statement shortly after being cleared of the charges at Southwark Crown Court today.
“I am delighted to have been cleared of these totally unfounded allegations of tax evasion,” said Mandaric, aged 73.
“It is clear they should have never have been brought to court. I never doubted the truth would prevail nor the fact that the British justice system would come to the right conclusion.
“I came to Britain twelve years ago because of my love of football and have since saved 3 much loved football clubs which were on the brink of extinction.
“As a result I have saved thousands of jobs and paid tens of millions of pounds into the public purse through tax.
“To suggest I would cheat the tax man is highly offensive to me, my family, my associates and friends.
“I am happy that my good name and reputation have been upheld.”
He finished by thanking the football fans for their support throughout the trial.
Mandaric was accused of giving two untaxed ‘offshore bonuses’ totalling over £189,000 to former employee Harry Redknapp. Redknapp, now manager of Tottenham Hotspur, was also cleared of dodging tax on the deposit in his Monaco account.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 09:54 PMCongrats MM see you soon :) Marshall was never going to choose the Owls over 3 year deal with Leicester unles we oaid more....Megson said he did not agree with Stokes valuation of £800k for Marshall, Marshall would have joined the Owls but it boiled down to £££, his agent will have made more from him moving to Leicester too, he's on more at Leicester per week than we could offer him at a Championship sideand Megson didn't think he was worth a championship contract just yet...we will see if Mego was right ? coupled with the wage cap in football league next year it made sense for him to try for Leicester, I follow him in twitter too but must have missed where he said the owls would be paying him Stoke and his agent the same fees ???

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 08:38 PMHe may have been found not guilty but it may not be over for our lads the Owls Just been reading that MM is going to sit down and see after all he has gone through with the trial whether he has any interest in football left If that happens and he turns his back on the game where does that leave the Owls?

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 08:07 PMWednesday matched Leicester' s offer pound for pound but Marshall opted to sign for Leicester, just look at his twitter. If the prosecution fails they have to pay the defence costs as well as the prosecution costs,it was a very weak case & should never have gone to court.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 07:33 PMLet's hope our foreign owner puts his hand in his pocket and spends some real cash now, we couldnt afford Marshall's wages and he has been best player by far at S6 this season...or sell us to some far east company who will splash the cash, looking at other clubs wages an transfer fees we have got to at least double what we are spending at the moment top of league 1 is miles behind top of Championship in terms of quality. Think we will def get promoted because we are stronger than all other league 1 sides but we need quality to progress further....both recent league 1 sides Norwich Chatlton and Southampton played it on the ground as well as long ball, we are just long ball.... getting results but football we play let's face is crap to watch...only JJ has any real skill... We need to get the blend right for Championship. UTO

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 07:04 PMPS Where's all the blunts? They were happy to voice their support when it was announced when the court date was due. Never mind we'll be laughing when that nice lad Evans goes up on his charges. Can't see him being let off!! UTO

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 07:02 PMThought it was a tax dodge on £189,000???? Someone ought to make their minds up. According to Peter Storrie Portsmouth did 273 player transfers in 9 years he was there and the HMRC say MM and Redknapp avoided tax on two of them. How much has it cost to bring this case to court? And HMRC have to pay both their legal fees.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 05:24 PMWhat "£600,000" tax dodge ? Tax on 2 x 189,000 is not £600,000. 2 x 189,000 isn't even "£600,000.
