AN ARSON investigation has been launched after an explosion at a flat in Town Moor, Doncaster, at the weekend.

Police last night charged a 43-year-old man with attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life after he was arrested on Saturday. Fire crews were called to a house in Windsor Road which has been converted into bedsits after some of the residents reported an explosion about 10pm on Friday.

They evacuated the premises and firefighters broke into the flat where the bang had emanated.

There was no-one inside and they found the gas cooker had been left turned on and there were two other seats of fire.

The kitchen had suffered extensive damage.

A fire service spokesman said the flat had been emptied of other property before the explosion.
