Boy’s body released so family can bury him

The funeral of the four-year-old South Yorkshire boy killed in a road collision just before Christmas can now go ahead.

The family of Dylan Blake Walker, of Dodsworth Street, Mexborough, can proceed with a burial service after his body was released yesterday by the Doncaster Coroner, Nicola Mundy.

She opened the inquest into the fatality on December 23 on Pastures Road, near High Melton, after taking evidence of identification.

PC Trevor Welch said Dylan was in a Mazda MX-5 when the driver lost control of the sports car and collided with an oncoming Ford Cargo lorry, causing the Mazda to leave the carriageway on the off-side.

Dylan was certified dead at the scene on Melton Mill Lane and taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary where his body was identified by his mother, Kay Walker. The car was driven by a 51-year-old man.

Ms Mundy said the police had no objections to his body being released pending their investigation, and the inquest was adjourned until May.
