Bogus charity collector alert

Police are warning members of the public in Doncaster to be vigilant of doorstep callers collecting money for sponsorship on behalf of charities.

The warning follows several reports of a suspicious person claiming to be doing a run locally to raise funds for Cancer Research in the Wheatley and Kirk Sandall areas.

“Those who are genuinely collecting money will be happy to show identification to verify their details, have appropriate paperwork to collate personal information and usually wear clothing displaying the charity logo. Please do not give money or banking details to doorstep callers who cannot provide these details,” said a spokesman.

Always be cautious of anyone who turns up on your doorstep without an appointment.
