Bogus callers are thwarted

NEWS: News.

NEWS: News.

Quick-thinking residents deterred bogus callers in two separate incidents in Doncaster on Tuesday, by not letting them into their homes.

Two men approached homes in Wheatley and Hatfield around lunchtime saying they were carrying out work on a neighbour’s washing machine and needed to access the house.

Superintendent Eddie Murphy said: “I’d like to thank residents for turning away these men and listening to our advice.

“Please be aware of people calling at your door. Even if they are wearing high-visibility clothing and carrying a toolbox, they may not be who they say they are.

“Genuine workers will usually make an appointment and are happy to wait while you call their organisation to verify their identity.”

Report information about bogus officials to police on 101.
