SHEFFIELD MP and former Labour Government minister David Blunkett has criticised Nick Clegg for his claims the Government is providing help for Sheffield.
Mr Blunkett said that the £2 billion highways upgrade was first approved when Labour was in power, and that much of the £572 million City Deal for Sheffield is not new money and would have been received from other sources.
The Brightside and Hillsborough MP said: “If you want to stretch a point, it may be possible to identify £4 million of new money.
“Why not stand up for Sheffield? Why not admit that local government has taken a much bigger hit than central government departments, and that the council is struggling to maintain basic services?”
