Big fine for owner of derelict property

The owner of 2 Main Street, Edlington, has been ordered to pay more than 1,300 by Magistrates, following a prosecution brought by Doncaster Council.

The owner of 2 Main Street, Edlington, has been ordered to pay more than 1,300 by Magistrates, following a prosecution brought by Doncaster Council.

THE owner of this eyesore property has been ordered to pay more than £1,300 by magistrates following a prosecution by Doncaster Council.

Shahzad Rana of Ilford, Essex, was convicted over the property at 2 Main Street, Edlington, which has been empty for eight years.

The building has been left standing as a bare shell and the authority had repeatedly contacted Rana requesting repairs.

All communications were ignored and so notice was served to carry out work - and when that did not happen he was taken to court.

Rana failed to attend but was fined £600 and ordered to pay costs of £695.79 as well as a £15 victim surcharge to Doncaster Council.

Deputy Mayor Coun Cynthia Ransome said: “I hope this serves as a strong warning for other rogue property owners across the borough. The council is looking at a long term solution for the property such as an enforced sale and possible demolition.”
