Bicycle crash boy still serious

A SCHOOLBOY badly hurt after he was knocked off his bike is still in a serious condition in hospital.

Jac Ashurst, aged nine, suffered severe injuries when he was hit by a black Peugeot 307 car while riding his bicycle on Richmond Park Road, Kimberworth, last Thursday.

He was thrown to the ground and sustained a fractured pelvis, two broken legs and severe brain swelling.

Jac was rushed to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, where he was initially fighting for his life, but his condition has now improved.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “The nine-year-old boy is in a serious condition in hospital so it is no longer life-threatening.”

The crash happened at 6.10pm, about 30 metres from the junction with Sopewell Road, yards from Jac’s father’s flat. The Peugeot driver, a 56-year-old man from Kimberworth, was not injured.

Anyone with information should call 101.
