A South Yorkshire MP is to work with the former director of public prosecutions on a new victims’ law.
Dan Jarvis, MP for Barnsley central and shadow victims minister, is working with Keir Starmer QC to draft the new law for victims of crime.
It will be set out in a draft Bill and give victims minimum standards of service and the opportunity to hold services to account.
Mr Jarvis said: “I know from talking to Barnsley residents the real difference a victims’ law could make – whether it’s keeping you updated with progress of a prosecution, or providing additional support at court.
“Being the victim of a crime can make normally capable people feel extremely vulnerable. We need to ensure the justice system supports them.”
