Volunteer firefighters were called out to deal with more arson attacks while regular crews were out on strike in an ongoing dispute over pensions.

Rubbish was set alight under a bridge on Wet Moor Lane, Wath-upon-Dearne, Rotherham, at 6.20pm on Wednesday just before two conifers were set alight on Manor Oaks Gardens, Wybourn, Sheffield.

Fire chiefs warned earlier in the week that arsonists were putting lives at risk when there are a reduced number of appliances available.

Regular crews were called to three recycling bins set on fire on Club Garden Walk, Sharrow, Sheffield; rubbish burning inside a garage on Sheringham Gardens, High Green and grass on fire on Skipton Road, Swallownest, Rotherham.
