Arsonists busy at weekend

STABLES and a shed were among buildings destroyed in a spate of fires across Doncaster at the weekend.

A stable block on land off Kirton Lane, Thorne, went up in flames in the early hours of Sunday but a fire service spokesman said no animals were endangered.

It is believed the fire was started deliberately.

The shed was on allotments off York Road, Scawthorpe, on Saturday evening and Adwick crews spent about half an hour putting it out. The cause was said to be accidental.

A wheelie bin reported on fire at a children’s play area on Darlington Walk, Moorends, around 5pm on Saturday was said to be started maliciously.

And Edlington fire crews were called to a residential home in Dale Road, Conisbrough, on Sunday night when a skip was also targeted by arsonists.
