A dog owner is celebrating after being reunited with seven puppies that were stolen from her home in a burglary.

Franchesca Knapton, of Cusworth feared she would never see the six week old Poodle and Bichon Frise cross breed puppies that were taken from her home on May 28 again.

She said: “I was giving up all hope, I couldn’t believe it when we got them back.”

A26-year-old man was due to appear at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with the burglary.

Richard Thomas, from Arksey, was arrested on Tuesday, June 3, and questioned by detectives.

On the same day, South Yorkshire Police recovered the puppies safe and well and they were returned to their Doncaster owner.

A 25-year-old woman from Arksey and a 29-year-old woman from South Elmsall, were also arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

They have been quizzed and released on police bail, pending further enquiries.

There were fears for their safety as they were too young to be away from their mother.

Sergeant Stuart Rowse said: “The owner was gobsmacked and relieved when all the puppies were returned.”
