A POLICE appeal for information on the one-year anniversary of a hit-and-run collision which left a man dead failed to yield any results.
Police called on members of the public to come forward with information 12 months to the day that 56-year-old Peter Topping died after being struck by a car which failed to stop at the scene of the collision.
Mr Topping was lying in Co-operative Street, Goldthorpe – where he lived – when he was hit by a car on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at around 8.25pm.
Police said the car drove over him, leaving him with fatal injuries.
Neighbours battled to revive him while they waited for paramedics to arrive, but Mr Topping could not be saved.
Detectives investigating the collision want to trace the occupants of three cars in the area at the time – a dark Mercedes ‘C’ class, a dark Land Rover Freelander, and a silver Audi A3.
However, the anniversary appeal went unanswered and South Yorkshire Police are no closer to cracking the case.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “The officer in charge of the investigation is not as yet aware of any calls or information received.”
Inspector Geoff Young said: “Although this incident is 12 months old, we are still actively trying to trace the vehicle and the driver.
“The investigation is continuing, but the police need the public’s help.”
Witnesses to the collision or anyone with information about the drivers or vehicles police want to trace are asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident 779 of December 29, 2011.
Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers, anonymously, by calling 0800 555111. Anyone giving information to Crimestoppers could receive a reward of up to £1,000.
