A THREE-day festival will open up 60 years of music, made with machines and computers, to the public.
‘Tape to Typedef’ - at the University of Sheffield - will feature concerts, talks and workshops on the history of electroacoustic music, examining its 60 year journey from Erik Satie using a typewriter to create sound in 1917, through to current mobile technology.
“We want Sheffield to experience new sounds and Tape to Typedef showcases the huge amount of creative work out there,” said Dr Adrian Moore from the University’s Department of Music.
“We want people to have a renewed creative drive for music outside their comfort zone.”
The festival begins on January 30, with workshops in the Jessop West building and concerts at the Drama Studio Theatre, Shearwood Road.
