I’m writing in response to an article you published about a new mental health service due to open in Sheffield (“Residents in battle against crisis centre” April 3), which will be run by my charity, Rethink Mental Illness.
In the piece, a local resident claims that at up to 80 per cent of residents at one of our recovery houses have problems with substance abuse.
This could not be further from the truth. Everyone who comes to our recovery houses comes voluntarily and must agree to certain rules in order to stay, including abstaining from illegal drugs and alcohol.
We know our recovery house will help the many people in the city who are affected by mental illness. We look forward to opening the service soon and hope the local community will support this much needed project.
