Six fans and a support group of nine aim to raise funds for the Hillsborough Families Support Group and the Hillsborough Justice Campaign to mark the of the 23rd anniversary of the tragedy.

They set off yesterday from the Leppings Lane end of the Sheffield Wednesday ground and will stop off at Manchester, Hyde and Widnes - a distance equivalent of running three marathons in three days.

They plan to finish their run at about 11am tomorrow and one week later will appear on the field at Anfield for Liverpool’s game against West Bromwich Albion.

A spokesman for the group said: “The run has received considerable support we encourage the public to come out and support the runners as they pass by.”
