Little Man Tate go out with a bang - REVIEW AND SLIDESHOW
IT'S not often you see tears at a gig.
Then it's not every day a band with one of the most diehard of followings calls it a day in their prime.
After a giddy four years that has taken the four men of Little Man Tate from pub prospects to playing in New York and Japan and denting the singles chart along the way the Sheffield band bowed out in style with two shows at Sheffield's O2 Academy.
At times emotion etched on his face, singer Jon Windle told fans at the very final sold out show on Saturday how they had lived out a dream - and he urged anyone with a guitar to try to follow in their footsteps.
"It's because of you that we're here," he said. "You've made all of this possible."
Two albums, two record labels, several singles, one broken jaw, one stolen van and hundreds of gigs down the line, LMT came to the end of the road with a show that started and ended like so many before it, kicking off with the anthem Man I Hate Your Band and winding up in frantic fashion with Down On Marie.
Who knows where it might have led them if they had carried on, was the question on many lips, but those people in front of the stage and on it probably wouldn't have changed a thing about the past four years.
Jon, Maz Marriot, Ben Surtees and Dan Fields took themselves and their fans on an adventure few musicians get to experience.
But, as they say, all good things must come to end.
Tate's all, folks.
