SHEFFIELD may be a long, long way from the perils of the sea.
But that didn’t stop pupils from Parson Cross CE Primary enjoying a blast of the briny when a special visitor arrived at their school.
Youngsters donned waterproofs and helmets with the help of Tony Dale, education officer for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
Tony was helping to launch this term’s new topic for Year 1 and 2 pupils – the subject of seaside safety and beach rescues.
Teacher Richard Hart said Tony explained just what the RNLI did and the fact his charity relies on public donations.
He said: “We looked at issues such as seaside safety, warning flags and looked at films of the work lifeboats carry out. But the sessions really took off when Tony brought out some of the outfits lifeboatmen wear and the children were given the chance to try them on!
“There were waterproofs and helmets and every pupil got to have a go.”
