A CRACKDOWN on litterbugs in Barnsley has led to three people being fined.
Following several complaints received from members of the public about littering outside the shops on Ballfield Lane, Kexborough, council officers have been regularly patrolling the area to try to catch offenders.
In recent weeks three people have been caught dropping litter there, and have been issued with £75 fines as a result. Officers will be continuing to patrol the area to try to resolve the problem
Coun Roy Miller said: “Littering is an offence, and it makes local areas look untidy and uncared for, as well as costing council taxpayers a lot of money to remove.
“When members of the public make complaints the council will always respond effectively and promptly.”
