A WOMAN has been hit with a hefty fine after bags of her rubbish were dumped in a country lay-by.
Catherine Lomas, of Sheffield Road, Creswell, north Derbyshire, was ordered to pay £181 after eight black bin bags of her household waste were discovered in a vehicle passing place on Highwood Lane at Whitwell Common.
The bags were found by a Bolsover Council officer, who looked through the contents and found evidence linking the rubbish to Lomas.
Lomas admitted the rubbish was hers when visited by the officer later the same day.
She said she had asked her son to take the bags to the local tip after missing her last three weeks’ bin collections.
Court proceedings were launched after the council wrote to Lomas twice asking for her son’s name and address but received no reply.
Lomas admitted failing to ensure her waste was given to an authorised person and was fined £100, plus £100 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
