A fire service 999 operator has been praised for saving the life of a man who was trapped in his smoke-filled Doncaster home.
The fire broke out on Cookson Street, Balby, in the early hours of October 20 after unattended cooking caught alight.
One man in his thirties, escaped the blazing property but the another was trapped in a first floor bedroom.
Penny Leonard, a control room operator on South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue’s white watch, kept him on the phone until firefighters arrived.
She kept him calm and gave him vital survival tips which included shutting his bedroom door and putting something beneath it to keep the smoke out.
