Veteran broadcaster Rony Robinson gave a lecture about a forgotten hero at a Sheffield school.
Rony spoke at Birkdale School in Broomhill about Edward Carpenter, a prominent early socialist who lived on the outskirts of Sheffield in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Edward was also a poet, philosopher, anthologist and gay activist instrumental in the foundation of the Fabian Society and Labour Party.
The lecture organised by Sheffield Historical Association was ‘well supported’ and a ‘very amusing and interesting account’ of Mr Carpenter’s life, organisers said.
Two events organised by the association will be held at Sheffield University.
On February 9 Prof Anthony Milton will speak on England’s Second Reformation and on March 22 Prof Richard Carwardine from Oxford University will talk about Abraham Lincoln.
