Library projects just the ticket

SHEFFIELD Council is seeking help from private developers to revamp rundown libraries in three suburbs.

The council is looking to replace current accommodation at Broomhill, Woodhouse and Woodseats.

Proposals involve moving Broomhill Library from its current building, which does not comply with the Disability Discrimination Act, to the ground floor of Willis House on Peel Street.

The plans for Woodhouse involve moving the library to Tannery Lodge, while Woodseats Library could be redeveloped on its current site, officials say.

The plans involve using private companies to redevelop each of the libraries, with the firms receiving sites for building in return. It means the libraries can be replaced at no cost to the taxpayer.
