Coun Clemont-Jones comments about ‘false outrage’ over the state of council finances (May 24). But what is outrageous is how the Lib Dems mislead the public.
I never said that there would be additional cuts of £7m. What I did say was that officers had identified £9m of Lib Dem cuts that are considered to be only 75% achievable. Also, I never said there would be a 4% rise in council tax. Contrary, I said we had told officers Labour would not support a hike in council tax, after they produced the report that showed the Lib Dem administration were planning for a 4% increase in April 2012. Truth and honesty appear strange bed-fellows for Coun Clemont-Jones.
