Inspirational Joanne Hobson of Balby, along with five friends, recently took part in the Three Peaks Challenge in memory of Joanne’s son Liam, who spent his final days at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

Liam John Dunne passed away at the age of 12 in 2013, after being diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma - a malignant form of cancer. During his cancer treatment, Liam raised over £8,000 for various charities including Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

When he passed away, Liam’s Warriors Trust was set up to carry on Liam’s charity work in his memory. Some of Liam’s Warriors, which includes his mum and five of her friends, took on the 26 mile Three Peak Challenge route on Saturday.

So far, more than £32,000 has been raised collectively by Liam’s Warriors – of which more than £12,000 has been donated to Bluebell Wood in Sheffield.

Liam’s Mum, Joanne Hobson, of Balby in Doncaster, said: “Through the generosity of many people and the teams of Liam’s Warriors that have completed various challenges, we’ve been able to help children and families at Bluebell Wood who are dealing with serious or life-limiting illnesses.

“We will continue to do this, as there are so many children that need help and support at this difficult, demanding and very traumatic time in their lives.”

Melanie Rose, Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice said: “I’d like to thank Joanne and Liam’s Warriors for continuing to support Bluebell Wood. The team have put an incredible amount of time and effort to continue Liam’s fundraising and have raised a significant amount for charity too.

“It costs over £3m a year to provide this vital service to our children and families, so the money raised will help to make magical memories for children just like Liam.”
