MORE snow news...

And a Barnsley theatre group showed the personal grit this column was talking about last week when several members found they couldn’t get home after the recent downfall.

Did they panic? Did they blame the council? Did they curse the day they ever decided to stage upcoming play La Cage aux Folles?

Nope. The group – members of The Theatre Academy in Birdwell – made the most of the misfortune and spent the night doing extra rehearsals before heading home the next day.

A case of the snow must go on, perhaps? And proof that even theatre luvvies are hard as nails in Barnsley.

AND staying in Barnsley, congratulations to little Sherwyn Sarabi.

The three-year-old from East End Crescent, Royston, has just become one of the youngest ever members of Mensa. His IQ is already in the top one per cent of the entire country and he spends part of the day at Rastrick Independent School with seven- and eight-year-olds.

Impressive – although rumours his teachers refer to him as the professor are entirely unfounded.

AND talking of tough nuts (The Theatre Academy group that is; not little Sherwyn, although he may be handy for all we know), what about Jon Maiden?

This is the Millhouses lad who has set himself the test of completing 10 endurance challenges during 2013, as revealed in The Star.

That includes an Ironman race – in which he will cycle 112 miles, swim 2.4 miles and run 26.2 miles in three days – a 130 mile hike across Ireland and a 120 mile kayak from Inverness to the Isle of Man.

That follows a 2012 challenge in which he hitchhiked 2,000 miles from Sheffield to the Arctic Circle.

Phew.

In other words, if you’re currently struggling to get in shape for the Sheffield Half Marathon, he’s probably exactly the kind of guy you don’t want to be reading about.

SO, that High Speed Two malarkey?

You know, the one that will take Londoners to Meadowhall in less than two hours?

Won’t be here for 20 years. It’s not very fast, is it?
