In the quarterly RSPCA magazine, there’s always a double page of court reports where you will read of neglect, starvation and brutality fit to horrify decent people. But the penalties are trivial !
I believe that for most offences the maximum sentences are six months in prison or a £5,000 fine. Little enough for these horrible cases, but magistrates consistently water them down too. I’d wager that if the person who killed Isaac had appeared in court he’d have got less than the maximum.
What sort of people, I wonder, are our elected representatives and our magistrates that they are so indifferent to the suffering of animals ? We can only beg them for change and hope that even if they have no compassion for animals they will fear unpopularity. I hope all readers will sign the Justice for Issac petition at www.ipetitions.com/petition/justice-for-isaac.
