Please may I use the Star letters page to throw down the gauntlet to our three Doncaster Labour MPs, on behalf of all residents of Dunscroft and Hatfield.
Following the landslip at Hatfield Colliery which has completely closed and destroyed the adjacent railway line until at least July and maybe even longer, are our MPs aware of the hardship and distress which is being caused to the residents of these two villages, because of the railway closure?
All coal leaving Hatfield Pit destined for Drax power station is now being transported by road through the villages of Dunscroft via Station Road, and Hatfield via the High Street.
The situation is totally unacceptable for all concerned with these massive lorries pounding the village roads.
Many residents are complaining that Hatfield Ward councillors are not helping in any way. My question is have these Councillors made our MPs aware of the situation?
I know coal has to get to the power station and I know the lorries are using the only available route, but I want an assurance from our MPs that they will do everything in their power to make sure this situation never reoccurs.
For years Hatfield has been promised a link road from the M18 to Hatfield Power Park, the site of Hatfield Pit.
Had this promised road materialised the present situation would not have occurred. What the residents now want is action.
Even when the rail line reopens we must make sure all heavy vehicles are diverted from these villages, and let’s not lose sight of the fact that Labour were in power 13 years.
I don’t want our MPs blaming just the present Government. The link road should have been a priority 30 years ago.
Let’s have some forward thinking from our elected politicians and make sure this can never happen again.
