I viewed the plans for the new retail quarter when they were on Fargate and have attended subsequent events in connection with the plan.
The response to having open streets that are not gated, covered, or a version of Meadowhall seems to be overwhelmingly positive.
This will lead to a welcome mix of retail, office accommodation and residential (and with luck further arts venues) making it a area to enjoy for a variety of pursuits, not just shopping.
I was therefore concerned by the letter in your paper last week that suggests the only way to go is producing a small Meadowhall. The retail business is altering day by day and it is essential that plans recognise this and that city centres pull people in to work, rest and play, as well as do a bit of shopping.
