Leppard's new record for rare singles

IS this a record? Two singles which were recorded by Sheffield rockers Def Leppard are expected to be fetch a chart-topping £500 when they go on sale at a record and CD fair in Chesterfield on Sunday.

The rare recordings, for which the present owner paid 50p, are among a host of items on offer at the fair at the Riverside Social Club in Hollis Lane.

Organised by the Sheffield and Chesterfield Record Collectors' Club, the sale will also feature thousands of rare, deleted and obscure releases covering the whole spectrum of popular music, with everything from classical to soul, jazz, pop, punk, metal, easy listening, nostalgia, blues, rock, and disco.

There will also be the chance for visitors to have their records valued thanks to a service run by the team who presented BBC radio's Record Collectors programme.

The team will be available all day to value records and to help people who wish to sell on their collections.

At a previous fair, valuers came across a mass of rare items including a set of reggae albums worth more than 250, some early mod singles which sold for 100 each, a copy of The Who's first album at 150, and Led Zeppelin's first album worth 600.

There's also a complete set of Beatles autographs on their first album, with Polaroid photos of them signing - valued in excess of 2,500.

Sunday's fair runs from 9.30am to 4pm. Call the organisers on 01782 714 182 for more details.
