Sheffield’s Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre is in the running for a top award for its health-boosting GP referral scheme.
The leisure centre at Norton, is one of six shortlisted for the Best Rehabilitation Centre accolade at the National Fitness Awards in Birmingham..
Graves, which is operated by Sheffield International Venues, has run an exercise referral scheme since 2006 and more than 120 people work out at ten weekly fitness classes.
The scheme is tailored to help those with a range of medical conditions to boost their fitness and overall health and wellbeing.
Jo Strong, the scheme’s Exercise Referral Officer, said: “The scheme has developed so much in the past two years and it’s wonderful that our hard work has been acknowledged with a National Fitness Awards nomination.
Bert Marsh, an 86-year-old Former World War Two paratrooper, was referred after a triple heart bypass operation and after a year took part in a 3k run.
