HELP is at hand for residents of a Sheffield housing estate seeking work in today’s troubled jobs market.

Southey and Owlerton Area Regeneration agency (SOAR) recently launched a new learning zone at the £2.5 million Parson Community Library building.

Now the zone is being used as a base for Sheffield College to provide ‘employability training’, to help jobless people ensure they are ready to return to work.

The library and learning zone, near the new Asda store and Chaucer College, was paid for with Sheffield Council, Government and National Lottery funding.

Ian Drayton, of SOAR, said the organisation is now planning to turn former housing offices across the road into a youth centre.
