SHEFFIELD Council’s Labour leader Julie Dore criticised Government cuts for ‘making it more difficult for young people to access job opportunities’ - as latest figures showed a rise in unemployment.

Figures released by the Office of National Statistics highlighted a 38,000 increase in the national jobless figure for the three months to June, including 15,000 people aged 16 to 24.

Coun Dore said: “I am really worried by the news. We have seen growth slow down in recent months because of the choices the Government have made to cut too far and too fast.”

She attacked a decision to axe funding which subsidises new jobs for young people.
