THE Government has appointed a new chairman of the independent panel tasked with keeping an eye on what is going on at Doncaster Prison.
Justice Secretary Ken Clarke has appointed Lynne Hill, from Barnsley, to take on the role on the Marshgate prison’s Independent Monitoring Board.
One of her first plans is to try to recruit more members to sit with her on the board.
Mrs Hill said: “Board members carry out important work on behalf of the Secretary of State ensuring prisoners and staff are treated fairly, decently and with respect.”
The board acts as the eyes and ears for the Secretary of State within the prison and its members have right of access to any part of the establishment.
They are allowed to talk to those in custody, out of the sight and sound of prison officers, to ensure they are being held in decent and humane conditions.
Anyone interested in joining the board can log onto www.imb.gov.uk or call the IMB Clerk at HMP and YOI Doncaster on 01302 767825. The role is unpaid.
