A landlord says he did not even look at his controversial ‘Don’t think, just drink’ pub posters and flyers before they were distributed near his pub.

Brian Richardson, aged 70, said he had ordered 2,000 door-to-door leaflets and five large posters to be displayed outside the pub.

Teetotal Brian said: “When the promotional material arrived, I didn’t even look at it, as you just assume everything will be as it’s supposed to be.

“I sent a team of distributors to push the leaflets through letterboxes and set some of my bar staff on putting the posters up outside.

“However, then one of the distributors said to me ‘have you seen what’s on these flyers?’ so I took a look and could not believe what it said.

“’Don’t think, just drink’ is not a slogan I would ever endorse. The slogan was supposed to be ‘Think before you drink’. I was so embarrassed and so cross when I saw the mistake.”

Brian has run the The Pocket pub in Worksop with his partner Alyson Ashley, 65, for the past 20 years.

He said: “Some of the residents who did get leaflets through their doors have been very angry. I’ve had to do a lot of explaining. It certainly was not a comical mix-up.”
