Police were alerted to reports a number of lambs and ewes were attacked in fields between the village of Spinkhill and Killamarsh on Saturday morning.

Officers said some of the lambs had to be put down due to the severity of their injuries and urged dog walkers to keep their pets on a lead when walking near livestock.

A spokesman from Derbyshire Police Wildlife Crime Unit said: "Some of the lambs will have to be dispatched due to the injuries and broken legs. This is an irresponsible dog owner at its best.

"Keep dogs on leads around live stock. This farm land is well signed, warning dog owners to keep dogs on leads due to animals."
