A MAGISTRATE and councillor has been selected as the Labour Party candidate to stand for election for the post of Police and Crime Commissioner in South Yorkshire.

Coun Shaun Wright was announced as the candidate after Labour Party members cast their votes.

He was up against South Yorkshire’s former Chief Constable Med Hughes and Anglican Priest Alan Billings.

Members of the public will vote in November, with each political party putting forward a candidate as well as people standing as independents.
