Labour has been rumbled - after a national newspaper featured its so-called ‘secret plot’ to unseat Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg from his Sheffield seat.

The piece in The Times said Sheffield Hallam was a key target for the party in May and Labour wanted to win to scupper coalition negotiations.

It will surprise few people in Sheffield, where Labour candidate Oliver Coppard was selected in July 2013 and has been publicly campaigning for months.

On Twitter he joked: “I wonder if it was the leaflets, website or Facebook that gave it away?”

He told The Star: “We are working hard in Sheffield Hallam, I don’t think that was a surprise to anyone who has had anything to do with our campaign and The Times appears to be two years late with the story.”
