Have your say

are Mick Gethin’s views (Aug 29) those of the Labour party? Is he really saying that being unemployed is an excuse to riot and loot?

It is clear that many of the culprits were employed. There is no reason why they needed to riot. To blame unemployment is a simple, politically motivated cop-out. If this was the cause then why were there no riots in Sheffield?

He says the bankers are the friends of the Government.

I remember the Lib-Dems trying to bring in stricter rules for banks, but Labour’s government wouldn’t do it.

Face facts, Labour had 13 years to sort out the banks, but they chose not to bother.

Credit to police

thanks to PC Mahmood and WPC Jepson for their help to my family in a difficult situation. They were helpful, understanding, diligent and a credit to Ecclesfield police.

Victory in city

Having done my homework, I now know that the figure on the Crimean War Memorial isn’t Queen Victoria, but Victory. Given that the Greek for this is Nike and bearing in mind the trainer shops in the vicinity, it seems Fargate is the ideal location for the lady.

Past and done

it’s just my opinion, but why on earth should the kiss of life be given to that sepulchral monument building of the Post Office, in Fitzalan Square? Surely Messrs Malone and Clayton should keep their thoughts from things that are past and done.

Gazebo friends

thank you to readers who responded to our request for help following the loss of our six gazebos. Two people donated £70 and someone searched our road to find us so they could leave a gazebo.
