Alan McGauley and his wife, Laura, were meant to have their dream kitchen fitted by Christmas.
They ordered the £16,000 design from Wren in July, with the guarantee it would be finished by November.
However, just a week before Christmas the couple, of Pinner Road, Hunters Bar, Sheffield, were still eating out and living on takeaways – and washing up in their bath.
After five re-designs – including some after incorrect measurements were taken – only the shell of the kitchen had been fitted.
The couple had already had to rearrange their son’s 21st birthday celebrations and were now looking to cancel Christmas at their home.
The last straw for Mr McGauley was when he was told the worktop would not arrive in time for Christmas – and so he contacted Action Desk for help.
He said: “It’s not a complicated job. We’ve had the house redeveloped, so the walls are square and the floor is level.
“We have the basic shells, but nothing else.
“When we ring Wren they never return your calls – it’s basic customer service.”
A partial victory for Action Desk. Although we could not get the couple’s chosen kitchen completed by Christmas, we did help to get them a fully functioning kitchen.
A Wren spokesman said the company was working with the couple to ensure they received the kitchen they want. He said the worktop the couple ordered has to be specially made and due to the time delay incurred during the templating and manufacturing process, it would not be available before Christmas.
However, with the help of Action Desk, the couple were given a temporary worktop and sink, so they were not without a working kitchen over the Christmas period.
The spokesman said that when the kitchen was completed the couple would be contacted about compensation for the situation they found themselves in.
