A TOP Brazilian diver took time out to inspire the next generation of Olympic hopefuls by meeting young athletes in Sheffield.
Cesar Castro, who is set to compete at the London 2012 games, participated in a training camp with kids from Activity Sheffield’s diving squad at Ponds Forge sports centre where he is currently practising.
Sheffield Council hope the training camp will lead to the entire Brazilian diving squad coming to the city next year before the games.
Cesar said: “The facilities in Sheffield are absolutely perfect, we have everything we need to dive here and more. I’m happy to raise awareness of diving here in Sheffield, because like in Brazil it doesn’t have the high profile that football does.”
Coun Gail Smith, the council’s cabinet advisor for culture, sport and tourism, said the visit was a “fantastic opportunity”.
