Girls and boys came from far, far away for a magical fairytale tea party at Meadowhall Shopping Centre.

More than 200 South Yorkshire kids were crowned honorary Fairy Princesses and Pirate Kings at the event, where they could also make their own wands and decorate swords and pirate hats.

Alex Caley of Meadowhall said: “Obviously the criteria for becoming a Fairy Princess or a Pirate King is quite strict, and we had to make sure that every participant was up to the challenge!

“There was wand making and sword decorating, as well as a number of other tasks including how to sprinkle magic fairy dust. All of the children were up to the challenge and we now have hundreds of new honorary fairy and pirate royals right here in Yorkshire with more workshops still to come.”
