FUNDING totalling £85,000 has been approved to improve road safety outside a Sheffield school, which includes a new zebra crossing and traffic- calming measures.
There was doubt about whether the scheme, at Mounteney Primary School, in Ecclesfield, would go ahead due to a review of transport funding decisions as Sheffield Council’s road scheme funds for the current financial year of £3 million are half the amount available in 2010/11.
But Sheffield Council has agreed to pay for the scheme from its central funding pot.
Coun Colin Taylor, Lib Dem councillor for East Ecclesfield, said: “It’s great news.
“We want to encourage our children and parents to walk to school so the very least we can do is ensure the roads around them are as safe as possible.”
