CAMPAIGNERS handed in a petition at Radio Sheffield calling on BBC bosses not to reduce local programming on the station.
Organiser Carol Robson has collected 316 signatures urging bosses to think again about plans to replace off-peak programmes with regional programmes and broadcasts from stations such as sports and news channel Radio 5 Live.
Ms Robson, of Thorpe Hesley, Rotherham, said: “We have been pleased with the support so far. It is important to have local media kept local.”
The equality and diversity officer has the support of Angela Smith, MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge, and Bolsover MP Dennis Skinner.
Another listener involved with the campaign, Kevan Smith, of the Manor, said: “If these changes are made we could end up with only a local breakfast and drive-time programme.
“How long before these would disappear as well and we are left with a rundown regional service or have to listen to national programming?”
