LETTERS have been delivered to hundreds of homes in Chesterfield to remind residents to be on their guard against sneak-in thieves prowling gardens for unlocked doors, windows and sheds.
Officers from the Middlecroft, Inkersall and Hollingwood Safer Neighbourhood Team are targeting vulnerable residents and hotspot areas with the letters which offer summer safety tips.
They are also handing out UV pens to mark property and window alarms.
PC Sarah Gerrard said: “As the clocks go forward the longer daylight hours and improvement in weather conditions often mean a change to people’s daily routines.
“People tend to stay out for longer and leave their windows and garden sheds open at home. These factors can create the perfect environment for opportunist burglars.”
