A young woman dubbed the ‘voice of a generation’ visited Sheffield Hallam yesterday after a poll showed only 3 per cent of potential first time voters would back the Liberal Democrats.
Helen Whitehouse, of Barnsley, is travelling to the most closely-fought constituencies across the UK after winning a nationwide competition.
She spoke to University of Sheffield students as new ICM polling for thinktank British Future was revealed.
It shows 47 per cent of 18- to 22-year-olds surveyed are ‘unlikely’ to vote for the Lib Dems and nearly a third say they would never vote for Nick Clegg’s party.
Helen, aged 19, said: “Tuition fees are bound to have played a big part, education is a big issue for young people and many carry heavy debts when they leave university.”
